Southern xc Rd2

After finishing Rd1 3rd behind two of the best sport riders in country I was looking forward to Rd2 and another good result. However some things aren't meant to be, Crow hill is a course which I have never enjoyed particularly as it never seems to flow and ends up a bit stop start for my liking. However in the weeks leading up to it I had done some hard intervals to try and help this. Unfortunatly it chucked it down on the morning of the race and made the course sticky and very soft resulting in a course that was pretty much one speed all the way round. Gridded on the front row I got an ok start, however the riders on my left decided to come across me and a guy behind flew 0ver the bars right in front of me, less than 50mtrs in and I'm off the bike at the back of the grid! Training partner Nick heard my swearing and gave me a wide berth as I sprinted back through the pack in a howling headwind! I pushed quite hard but getting past people on a one speed course is always hard. Middle ring, middle of the block and just grind away, even the tech sections became pretty slow so you gained little advantage by being able to clean them compared to people running, VERY annoying! I did get up to 5th place but I was paying for my early pace and struggled on the last lap losing a place to finish 6th. Not what I wanted but not a disaster either as I'm still 4th overall. Have to say bike once again performed flawlessly and my Maxxis ignitor tyres were incredibly grippy giving loads of confidence over the roots and mud. Just two weeks till Rd3 of the national series at Margam so I best go and find my climbing legs after 3 pretty flat races, see you there!
