BMBS R4 - Crow Hill

I blame the weather for the non-updates I've put the way of this blog recently! Also I've been pretty busy with events and training so here comes quick round up.

The Midlands Champs were down at Hanchurch Woods which made for a hard fought race with Phil Lenney, George Budd,Charlie Evans & Christian Aucote. Jonathan Pybus took the win by a couple of minutes and I lost out to Phil Lenney by 23 seconds but I was still happy with 3rd considering the company.

The week after I traded knobbly tyres for slicks and took on the Dave Lloyd Mega Challenge. 150 miles of nothing but hills! Epic day on the bike! My ride time was 8 hours 25 minutes but I apparently didn't push and shove enough at the feed zones enough 'cause I lost about 35 minutes d***ing around. 9 hour 1 minute finish time meant 1 minute over the GOLD time. Lesson learnt I guess!

Now onto BMBS Round 4.

The last time I raced Crow Hill was last year's nationals (Sport) which I actually won so I was going into the weekend with high hopes. After Margam I was looking for another top 5 and to get as close to the podium as possible.

By midday the course was drying out which made it very fast with little respite. I got off to a great start, going into the first section in a comfortable 3rd place. It all went wrong on the second corner! The corners were getting loose, I lost my rear wheel and managed to drop the chain of the chainring at the same time. I was off the bike now trying to get going again and gave up a good number of places. I would say I was mid pack now and the next three laps were spent fighting my way back up the placings and considering my start I was very happy with the results.

After 3 laps I managed to catch George Budd and we then began to once again battle it out. I felt really strong and the only thing limiting me were my technical skills on the day. I managed to out sprint George in the end which gave me a solid 6th place. Not over the moon but considering the start it could of been much worse.

Crazy to think we are 4 national rounds down with just 1 to go! Looking to finish as high as possible in the overalls and get as close to a podium as possible at Newnham Park.

I'll keep you posted! Laters!
