Travelling up to Innerleithen and i know Steve Parr has something scary instore as far as the course is concerned and the weather is intermittent heavy rain. Practice on Saturday confirms my fears as the downhill sections are proper tough. Its quite old skool with it being very up and then very, very down. Tyre choice is gonna be interesting.
A nights sleep and hoping the rain holds off. Nope, still more of the same. 1 hour to go i decide to change tyres. i crack open a brand new tyre and fit it. My bad luck rears its ugly head...it has trouble sealing but i think i have it cracked. a bit of a warm up and almost get run over by some knob in a van. line up for the start on the lumpy field hill. get an average start but know there is something wrong. get to the top of the climb and my rear tyre is squidgy, i panic and rip out my canister, a wee squirt and im off at the back of the field. I gain some places and enter the first downhill. CRASH! my rear tyre flats and washes out. i get to the side of the track to fix my puncture i fit my tube and inflate. psssssssss! f*ck. my tube is ripped too!. race effectively over i wheel back to the pits. i replace my tyre and carry on a lap and a half back. its now a training ride and i start to enjoy myself and get the downhill pretty sorted. 3rd lap on the downhill and i catch a route on my rear mech. SNAP! f*ck! 5 mins bodging bike. i wheel down the rest of the race and make some places amazingly. run over the line for the hell of it. Last place i think and hopefully the end of my bad luck.
